It’s just hours to go before the beginning of the Games of the XXX (30^th) Olympiad and buzz is building around director Danny Boyle’s opening ceremony. It’s estimated that up to one billion people will watch as Boyle’s  “Isle of Wonder” takes the stage in a celebration of “rural Britain” (according to the Telegraph).

There are rumours of big names taking part in the event such as Daniel Craig, Kenneth Branagh and Sir Paul McCartney. There will also be live animals including 70 sheep (plus a sheepdog), geese, goats, horses and cows. PETA isn’t very happy.

Sounds interesting but let’s check what people are saying. When we typed in “Olympics” AND “Opening Ceremony” AND “Danny Boyle” here’s what we found:

 There’s a spike in blog posts today naturally with the majority of the buzz coming from the United Kingdom. Despite the occasional gloomy prediction from the British news, overall sentiment is positive at 97 per cent.

The same thing is seen on Twitter with the expected spike today and most of the activity coming from the UK.

 The BuzzGraph is fun. There’s chatter about the Olympics but the strongest link is between Olympic and Slumdog. That’s because Slumdog Millionaire was Boyle’s biggest hit in North America, earning him an Oscar. Personally, we prefer Trainspotting and Frankenstein.

People are excited for the opening  ceremonies, mostly because Boyle is doing them. He’s using former collaborators, Underworld, for the music. Now that has us excited.
